We started composing this update a few weeks ago when the prospects of opening up for in-person activities seemed promising. Local officials had given the go-ahead for Stage 3 businesses (galleries & museums) to start reopening.
But as of July 13, the California Governor revised those guidelines due to rising Covid-19 cases in the State and County. To be in compliance with the new guidelines, our facility will remain closed for any in-person activities.
The Board has authorized a few people access to the Art Center for ongoing maintenance and safety of the physical plant, including our office manager and Board members who may be there only for activities essential to the maintenance of the organization.
Here is a snapshot of what’s happening around the Art Center:
Gallery
The Thomas Gallery will remain closed for the time being. We are moving our exhibits online through the fall:
From the Mountains to the Sea runs from July through August.
Red Hot, our Members Only Exhibit, will run from September through October.
Stay tuned for the invitation!
Youth Art
No classes will take place in person through the end of the year. We are very sad to cancel our Summer Art Camp as well as Art After School in the fall.
We hope you will join us as we dip our toes into the virtual arena with a FREE Zoom Workshop: Make A Mandala, for all ages taught by the wonderful Rebecca Goodman, coming July 25! SIGN UP here.
Ceramics & Life Drawing
Due to the surge in cases, we have shelved plans to restart classes and clay lab time in person, and will most likely remain closed through the end of the year.
We are looking into more ways to offer content online. It would help to know from you whether there is an interest in online classes.
Thanks for staying with us as the quarantine continues! Have any questions, concerns, or ideas? We’d love to hear them.
