Explore Great Art in the Redwoods

You’ve probably explored the natural wonders of the San Lorenzo Valley. But tucked in among the towering redwoods, rugged slopes, and historic towns are an abundance of very fine artists and craftspeople who live and create here.  Now you have the chance to meet more than thirty of these Valley artists and see their work in the free, self-guided, 2022 Valley Art Tour.

On the weekend on May 21 and 22 from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm, explore from north of Boulder Creek to south of Felton. See painters, sculptors, ceramicists, woodworkers, glass artists, photographers, and more. Over thirty Valley artists will open their studios to the public, with many sharing their spaces so you can see more with fewer stops.  Just look for and follow the directions on the large fluorescent pink placards posted throughout the San Lorenzo Valley to find an artist’s studio.

Map it out

You can find a list of artists and a map of studio sites on the tour website: http://slvarttour.org/. Or pick up a map locally at the Santa Cruz Mountains Art Center in Ben Lomond, or at the Felton or Boulder Creek Public Libraries or other locations throughout Santa Cruz County. Or, if you’re up for a weekend drive, just follow the fluorescent pink signs from Highway 9 to the studio sites. Wherever you go, you’ll get the chance to meet the artists and learn something about the process they use to produce their art. Some studios will have ongoing demonstrations of glassblowing, ceramics, painting, and more.

Fun for everyone

The Valley Art Tour is an opportunity for the public to see and experience what Valley artists have to offer. In addition to demonstrations, many artists will have pieces for sale. At the Art Center, the four artists exhibiting are also planning kids’ crafts, casual snacks, and music. Says board secretary Chris Finnie, “We’re planning a party and inviting everybody to come see our facility and find out about all the programs we offer.” But, no matter where you wander, the 2022 Valley Art Tour will let you see some outstanding art, plus share your love of art with the artists who made it.
