Attention Soda-Firing enthusiasts!
We’re cranking up the heat in our magnificent soda-kiln.
After an amazing demonstration by soda-firing expert Ruthanne Tudball, spirits and motivation are through the roof. The art center will be hosting a minimum of five firings during the year, and our kiln is approximately 10 cubic feet so space will be limited to 6 people.
Loading of bisque/glazed ware:
Bring a bunch of ware ready to fire. This kiln load is limited to 6 participants, and work is loaded on a rotational basis. Small pieces are most welcome as we can fill up all the nooks and crannies, going for a well-packed kiln.
The kiln is candled overnight and firing ramp-up commences at 6 a.m. and is usually complete by 9 p.m. You are welcome to come and participate at any time – it’s most exciting when the soda is added and the kiln is in reduction. The kiln is usually allowed to cool for at least 1 full day.
Firings are limited to 6 participants, so register early!
