Call for the 2017 Featured Artists Exhibit

2017 Featured Artists Exhibit Prospectus

The Santa Cruz Mountains Art Center is now accepting applications for the 2017 Featured Artist Exhibit in the Thomas Gallery

Eligibility:

  1. All applicants must be current members of the Santa Cruz Mountains Art Center.
  2. Applicants may apply individually for a solo show, or together with up to two other artists who will share the gallery space.
  3. Applicants must have a body of work extensive enough to fill the galley (individually or as a group).
  4. Work may be 2D or 3D, including painting, mixed media, photography, printing, ceramics, weaving, basketry, sculpture, etc. No jewelry or small craft items please. All work must be ready for gallery showing.

Participation Fee:

There is no entry fee for application. The participation fee is $600. This fee covers exclusive use of the Thomas Gallery during the exhibit dates, including the office and gift shop areas, wrapping supplies, credit card machine and some bookkeeping service.  The participating artists will retain 100% of revenue from sales during the show.

SCMAC will promote the featured artist(s) on our website, with email announcements and on Facebook. A poster, flier and postcard will be designed for the show. The artist(s) will be responsible for printing and distribution of these materials.

For a group of 2 or 3 artists the fee may be divided equally, or determined by how much space each artist occupies. A solo artist will be responsible for the entire participation fee.

Once artist(s) are selected, the participation fee is due no later than September 1, 2107.

Responsibilities of Participants:

  1. The artist(s) will hang and take down the show (with guidance by the curatorial staff). Artist(s) will patch and paint gallery walls, as needed, after the take-down (with assistance by the curatorial staff).
  2. Artist(s) must provide a docent schedule with SCMAC curatorial volunteers for the regular gallery hours (Wed – Sun, 11 am – 5 pm) during the exhibit.
  3. Artists applying together will decide among themselves how much space each will occupy and what percentage of the fee each will be responsible for.
  4. Participating artist(s) will host an Opening Reception (with assistance of curatorial staff).

Entry Procedure:

  1. Please read the entire Prospectus, then fill out and submit the Application below.
  2. Accompany the Application with 6 examples of the work you will exhibit in the show. These must be in jpg format at 300 dpi.
  3. If you are applying as a group, please list the other artists in your group. Each artist must submit their own application and work examples (two artists would send 12 examples total, 3 would send 18 total).

Application Deadline: April 24, 2017

Selection Process:  Applications for the Featured Artist Exhibit will be reviewed by the SCMAC Board of Directors. The Board will then select, by vote, the artist(s) to be the 2017 Featured Artist(s).

Notification: Applicants will be notified of the selection on May 8, 2017.
