Diedra Kmetovic started working with beads almost forty years ago when her grandmother gave her a box of beads. She is largely self-taught, from personal experimentation, books, and magazines. In college she took some jewelry making classes, taught by the talented metal artist, Linda Watson. After obtaining her B.A. in the Social Sciences from San Jose State University and her California Teacher’s Credential, she continued gathering skills and techniques from workshops and conferences including glass bead making, precious metal clay and lapidary work. Diedra has recently finished a collection of jewelry work that represents monarch butterfly wings seen among the eucalyptus leaves, all beaded out of seed beads. Next Diedra hopes to get her website up and running with her “Monarch” series and the classes she can teach.
