Art,
Auction and the Dolce Vita Antics
By Brenda Berg
Last Friday evening. the
Santa Cruz
Mountains
Art
Center
launched their celebration of "La Dolce Vita" with an Artist’s
Reception and sumptuous Auction for guests with an appreciation of the good
life. Art Center member and auctioneer, England’s charismatic Cecily Cahill
led festivities by introducing delectable dining donations from popular local
eateries including Scopazzi’s, Tyrolean Inn, Café Max, Gigi’s, and Desserts
First Bakery.
Clad in zebra-striped shoes and cummerbund, Cahill broke
with traditional American ideas about dry Brits, by sharing her delightful wit
with Art Center guests (including the occasional innocent bystander) by
comically heckling low bidders, running across the floor to sit on a potential
high bidder’s lap, and requesting to be invited to dinner festivities with the
high bidders. All money raised from the enjoyable auction benefits two very
important
Art
Center
annual exhibitions--- the Invitational Exhibition and the Youth Art Show. Both
shows encourage, support and sponsor exceptional local talent, emerging artists,
and community experiences through free exhibition space, workshops, classes and
events.
The
Art
Center
’s La Dolce Vita exhibition continues through May 22nd at
9341 Mill Street
in
Ben Lomond
. Donations for the Invitational Exhibition and the Youth Art Show can still be
made by dropping by the
Art
Center
or downloading a donation form online. Phone the
Art
Center
at 336-3513 or go online at www.MountainArtCenter.org for information about
this Exhibition, donations, the new Gift Shop Opening celebration, Classes,

16-July 17, 2004. Artist’s prospectuses are now available on-line or at the

“La Dolce
Vita” auctioneer Cecily Cahill approaches the microphone as Elizabeth North
(background) signs-up last minute bidders, and Brenda Berg welcomes guests to
the
Art
Center
